What is Root Canal Treatment, Is it Painful? 

The type of treatment performed to treat, repair and save a tooth that is decaying, painful or infected is called root canal treatment. To explain, if the dental nerve is damaged due to decay or trauma, the body creates inflammation in this area on its own. In such cases, the nerve formed is removed and filled with the help of filling without gaps. The root canal treatment process is carried out in this way. 

Like every disease, starting treatment early for root canal treatment is of serious importance for the life of the tooth. If the tooth requiring root canal treatment is neglected and not treated, it may damage the surrounding tissues or cause serious damage up to tooth loss. Inflammation may recur in a tooth that has undergone root canal treatment, in such cases, root canal treatment should be performed again. 

For a successful root canal treatment, it is necessary to clean all the nerve spaces in the tooth and fill those spaces. Is Root Canal Treatment a Painful Procedure? 

Local anaesthesia is applied to the person during the root canal treatment procedure. Since each individual has a different pain threshold, it is not correct to claim that it is a painless procedure. Some people may feel discomfort due to sensitivity. You can use the painkillers recommended by your physician for the sensitivity experienced or continuing sensitivity after the root canal treatment procedure. 


How Long Does It Take? 

Depending on the damage condition of the tooth, root canal treatment is performed in one or two sessions. However, if the damage and infection in the tooth is very common, the treatment can be extended up to three sessions. In such cases, your dentist will make appropriate dressings for your tooth between sessions and cover the tooth with temporary fillings. 

 
What should be considered after root canal treatment? 
You should not eat or drink for one or two hours after the procedure. 

Very hot and very cold food / drinks should be avoided to avoid sensitivity problems that may occur. 

Regular oral care routines should be continued and you should visit your doctor regularly.
