In the past, when we applied braces to our patients, food residues accumulated on the braces and it was very difficult to clean them. Especially when used during adolescence and if there is an unestablished brushing habit, if those areas are not cleaned, gum growth, excessive bleeding in the gums, and demineralization lesions in the form of white spots, which we call white spots, occur around the teeth. These lesions are better treated and cause caries. We know that some parts have been wired for 5-6 years and when we remove the wires, we can see that the bottom part is completely rotten.
After this pessimistic picture, we started to bring extremes into our lives. We straighten our patients' teeth with aligners by taking digital measurements of the teeth, which we call transparent aligner applications, and making digital plans. As the aligners change, patients' teeth also improve. The biggest advantage of this is that you can take out and eat your meal. After your meal, you brush your teeth and after your teeth are cleaned, you brush your clear aligners again and then put them in your mouth.
Is There Any Advantage Compared To Wires Treatment In Terms Of Treatment Duration?
This is an orthodontic treatment. Teeth like optimum strength. If we give optimum force to the teeth, they move very well. However, with transparent plate technology, if you make a good three-dimensional plan from the beginning about how many mm of force each plate will apply, how many grams of force will apply and how many mm the tooth will move from where to where, if you give optimum force to the teeth, we can make much faster movements. When we give a little more force to the strings, unwanted movements occur. Teeth tipping or tooth immobility may occur. Recent research shows that transparent plate treatments shorten the treatment period by at least 5-6 months.
How Long İ̇s The Total Treatment Ti̇me?
The number of transparent plates is determined according to the patient's problem. In patients with very small crowding, we straighten their teeth with 14 plates. If there is more crowding and chin stenosis, this number increases to 20. If there is a problem between the jaws, the number of transparent plaques increases in patients whose teeth close in what we call Class II or Class III.
How Many Days Should We Use A Record?
We change each plate every 7 to 10 days. For example, if you have 14 records, it will take 14 weeks or 140 days. If you have 50 records it will take 50 weeks or 500 days. We change the aligners a little faster in children, every 5 or 7 days. The length of the teeth also affects the treatment time. If your teeth are long and the area covered by the aligners is greater, we can shorten this period.
What Is The Frequency Of Coming To An Appointment?
We arrange appointments together for our patients coming from abroad and out of town, according to their travel plans. Apart from that, we make appointments for our patients every 2 months.
In the first session; We take examination, evaluation and digital measurements. We scan the mouth in three dimensions in three or five minutes. And we send the scan to planning. Our patients must come for this.
In the second session; We place white dot-shaped fillings, which we call attachments, on the teeth that need them. We definitely need to glue these attachments in the second session. If our patient cannot come and there is not much complexity, we can give the plates to the patient in bulk.
Third session; If our patient is suitable, does not have a very severe problem, and appropriate planning has been made, we can see the patient at the end of the treatment. We can carry out the finishing operations.
What Can Be Done To Patients Who Have Separated Teeth Or Gap Teeth?
Gaps can be easily closed with transparent plates. In the treatment of patients with separated teeth or extraction gaps, the gaps can be closed and aligned in a shorter time than with braces by adjusting the parallelism in three dimensions with transparent plates. Closing the gaps can be done very easily with transparent plates.
Should We Close The Gaps With Bonding, Lamina Or Transparent Plaques?
If our patient does not have time and wants the problem to be solved immediately, bonding or lamination can be done. The patient's expectation is important here. If the patient wants the problem to be solved on the same day, bonding or laminate applications can be performed. If our patient has time and wants to have a beautiful smile aligned only with his own teeth, then we complete the treatment for a certain period of time using transparent aligners without doing anything else.
What Should Be Done At The End Of Treatment?
At the end of the treatment, our patients need to switch to reinforcement therapy. There is a risk that the gaps will open again and the complications will return to the past. In order to prevent these gaps from opening, we glue thin wires to the back of the teeth, which we call fixed retainer reinforcement in orthodontics.
Is There Any Age Limit For Transparent Plaques?
It can be applied to patients of all ages, starting from the age of 8. There is no age limit for clear aligner patients. Patients of all ages, from 7 to 70, can receive orthodontic treatment.
