What is Dental Implant?
Dental implants are titanium-based screws that are applied to the jawbone as an artificial tooth root, replacing lost teeth for various reasons. Dental prostheses are made with various aesthetic materials on top of these screws. Titanium is a highly biocompatible material and does not react with the body, making dental implants safe and healthy materials.
What are the Advantages of Dental Implant?
The benefits of dental implant treatment are:
• The function and aesthetics of the lost tooth are restored in the most natural way.
• The lack of teeth is eliminated without interfering with the patient's other healthy teeth.
• It prevents bone loss in the area where the tooth is extracted.
• Front tooth implants help to provide gum aesthetics.
• Dental Implants are materials that best mimic natural tooth structure.
• It provides the opportunity to use fixed prostheses for patients who do not have any teeth.
Who can get Dental Implant?
Dental implants can be safely applied to all patients who have completed bone development, are over 18 years of age, have not recently undergone radiotherapy/chemotherapy, and do not have any significant systemic illnesses that are not under control.
How is the dental implant procedure performed?
Every patient who applies to our clinic for dental implant treatment is first examined in the mouth and evaluated by taking radiological images. In this radiological evaluation, the health, dimensions and suitability of the bone in the area to be implanted are evaluated. If there is no inconvenience in the examination part, which is the first step of the implant construction process, the operation stage is started.
Dental implant surgery can be performed under local or general anesthesia at the request of the patient. Local anesthesia is usually sufficient. General anesthesia decisions can be made by evaluating the patient's anxiety and general health status.
Dental implant surgery is painless under anesthesia; It takes an average of 10-15 minutes for each implant teeth. Thus, the second step of the screw teeth construction process is completed. Pain control is achieved successfully thanks to the drugs prescribed in the postoperative period.
A control x-ray is taken immediately after the operation, and the recovery period of 3-6 months is started. Under ideal conditions, the recovery period is 3 months, but due to the need for advanced surgery or some chronic diseases of the patient, this period may be extended up to 6 months. Before the procedure, the patient is informed about this.
Conditions that require advanced surgical procedures can be listed as follows;
• Bone resorption in the area to be implanted
• Insufficient length and diameter of the bone to be implanted
• Various traumas to the related area
• The proximity of the implant teeth area to various anatomical structures.
In patients with such conditions, bone graft, collagen membrane and different surgical techniques may be required for the construction of dental implants. This can prolong the healing process of the dental implant up to 6 months.
At the end of the healing process, a control x-ray is taken again and the prosthesis stage, which is the third and final stage of the implant construction process, is started. Although this stage differs according to the type of prosthesis to be made, it takes an average of 1 week.
Dental implants can be used safely with both fixed and removable prostheses. Fixed implant prostheses; It can be applied as cement (adhesive), screwed or a combination of these. With the prosthesis made, the patient gets an aesthetic and healthy smile.
